The Jet Propulsion Laboratory in the hills above Pasadena is a science fair on steroids.

The laboratories are a tinkerer’s paradise where components of Mars landers and orbiting satellites are conceived on white boards, assembled, disassembled and reassembled again.

Science is messy. LA-based photographer Spencer Lowell believes the mess is art.
